Quick Answer

Coffee is a hot brown drink. It is strong and bitter, but many people love it because it helps them wake up in the morning.

Example: I drink coffee in the morning.

Coffee in 3 Sentences

Read these three sentences. Notice how coffee is used:

  • I drink coffee in the morning. (every morning)
  • She has coffee with milk. (how she drinks it)
  • The coffee is too hot. (describing temperature)

A Quick Tip About COFFEE

“Coffee” is uncountable — say some coffee or a cup of coffee, not “a coffee” in formal writing. But in cafés, ordering “a coffee, please” is normal and natural.

Saying “a coffee” when you mean a packet

I bought a coffee at the shop. (meaning a bag of coffee beans)
I bought some coffee at the shop. (a bag of coffee beans)

Easy way to remember: coffee is a liquid drink. In a café, “a coffee” = one cup, OK. In a supermarket, “a coffee” sounds wrong — say some coffee.
