- We have chicken for dinner. (the food)
- A chicken lays eggs. (the bird)
- I like chicken with rice. (eating it)
A Quick Tip About CHICKEN
“Chicken” works two ways. As the BIRD, it is countable: a chicken, two chickens. As the FOOD (the meat), it is uncountable: some chicken, not “a chicken”.
Saying “a chicken” when you mean the food
✗ I eat a chicken for dinner.
✓ I eat chicken for dinner.
Easy way to remember: if you can put it on your plate as food, just say chicken. If it’s a live bird walking around, say a chicken.
