Example: The Sahara is the largest hot desert in the world.

A Quick Tip About DESERT
Desert is the twin of dessert (the sweet food) — one letter apart. Desert has one s; dessert has two. The stress is different too: DEH-zert (sand) vs dih-ZERT (cake).
Adding a second s when you mean the sandy place
✗ The camels walked across the dessert.
✓ The camels walked across the desert.
