Lemon in 3 Sentences

Read these three sentences. Notice how lemon is used:

  • I put lemon in my tea. (for flavour)
  • A lemon tastes sour. (describing the taste)
  • She squeezes a lemon on her fish. (adding flavour)

A Quick Tip About LEMON

“Lemon” can be countable (one lemon, two lemons) or uncountable (a little lemon = some lemon juice or pieces). For the whole fruit, count it: a lemon. For the flavour or juice, no “a”: lemon in my tea.

Saying “a lemon” when you mean the flavour

I put a lemon in my tea.
I put lemon in my tea.

Easy way to remember: if you can hold the whole fruit in your hand, it’s a lemon. If it’s a flavour or juice, just say lemon.
