Quick Answer

A grape is a small round fruit. Grapes grow in big bunches and can be green, red, or purple. They are sweet and easy to eat.

Example: Grapes are sweet and small.

Grape in 3 Sentences

Read these three sentences. Notice how grape is used:

  • Grapes are small and sweet. (describing the fruit)
  • I eat grapes as a snack. (when hungry)
  • Can I have some grapes, please? (asking for several)

A Quick Tip About GRAPE

We almost always say grapes (plural), not “a grape”. Why? Because grapes come in bunches and we eat several at once. “A grape” sounds strange in English — like saying “a rice” or “a sugar”.

Saying “a grape” when you mean several

I eat a grape for a snack.
I eat grapes for a snack.

Easy way to remember: grapes come in bunches. Always say grapes (plural) unless you really mean exactly one.
