1.2.2 Able to listen to and follow:

ii. simple instructions in the classroom


Pupils can:

  1. Listen to and sing the song “You are my sunshine” in correct  rhythm
  2. Listen to and follow simple instructions correctly

  1. Teacher shows model of the sun
  1. Asks the pupils to describe the model. Encourages pupils to talk about the model.



Suggested words:

  • Hot
  • Yellow
  • Big

Teacher talk:

-What is the colour of the sun?

- Is the sun hot or cold?

- Is the sun big or small?

Step 1


( 10 min )


1. The teacher plays the song “You are my sunshine.”

2. Pupils listen to the song.

3. Teacher reads the lyrics and pupils read after the teacher.

4. Pupils read aloud, and teacher check their pronunciation.

5. Pupils sing the song together.


Suggested lyrics:

You are my sunshine

My only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are grey

You’ll never know dear

How much I love you

Please don’t take my sunshine away

Teaching Aids:

1.power point (Refer to Appendix 2) -You are my sunshine songs and lyrics

Step 2

(Post listening)

( 8 min )


  1. Teacher puts up the pictures of rain and sun on the blackboard.
  2. Teacher gets the pupils to talk about the activities that can be done in that kind of weather.
  3. Pupils picked randomly choose the correct word card and match it to the picture.

Example :


-    watering plants

-     playing football

-     eating ice-cream

















-    sleeping

-    doing homework

-     reading






  1. Teacher asks pupils other activities that they know

Step 3

 (Post listening)

( 7 min )


1.Teacher distributes worksheet to the pupils

2.Pupils listen to teacher’s instruction

3. Teacher says the pictures and asks the pupils to listen carefully and put a tick (/) to the correct pictures.

4. Teacher gives 2nd worksheet. Ask them to write the sun and the rain to the correct pictures.

  1. Teacher distributes picture puzzle task to each group.
  2. Pupils solve the puzzle and name the picture.
  3. Teacher relates the puzzle to a moral value. Love for the mother as she is like the sun.
  4. Pupils sing along to the related song.
