Look at these adjectives. In your books group them together into sets that are the same. Then can you write a rule for each set. Why are those words together? Think about the word is spelt before the –er or –est ending has been added.

Adjectives    Adding er and est

When we add  er or  est to some words we double the last letter.

wet  - wetter  - wettest

3)  He saw the _____________ alien coming from the spaceship. (thin)

4)  From the rocket he saw the ___________ planet. (red)

When we add  er or est to words ending in y we change the y to an i.

happy   - happier   - happiest

2)  It was the ____________ rocket in the space station. (noisy)

3)  Zogg was _____________ than his friend Zurgg. (lazy)

4)  The planet Mess-Mess was the ____________ in the solar system. (untidy)
